Paired 70 Tonners  Contributor's Pick!
The Sisseton Southern RR (SSOR) operated the former Milwaukee Road line between Sisseton and Milbank SD from 1987 to 1989. Their two GE 70 tonners were sitting in the Dakota Southern's Chamberlain SD yard in July 1993. 75 was originally built for Iowa's Charles City Western and then worked for the Mariana & Blountstown in Florida before ending up in the Dakotas. The large, obviously homebuilt plow is a nice touch.

Alex Huff General #75 was originally M&B #75 s/n 29090 blt 9/47, (am told the chrome ring around the headlight is from a 1947 Chevrolet). Unit was sold to the Iowa Terminal RR - Charles City Division, purchased by SSOR (comon ownership with Dakota Southern Rwy) 7/87. After two years operating between Sissiton and Milbank, SD, equipment was moved to Chamberlain, SD, base of operatoins for DSRC. On DSRC unit did operate, mostly on M-0-W service and then assigned switcher at carton printing plant at Titterton Siding on outskirts of Mitchell, SD Now stored bad/order with cracked cylinder liners. 1/30/2021 11:55:49 AM
