Henry Ford would understand
Title:  Henry Ford would understand
Description:  Shooting NS is frequently like the old saying attributed to Henry Ford, "You can have any color you want, as long as it's black". Add to that the hugh numbers of C40-9Ws on the line and you frequently end up with that combination. These two are working train 239 west by the rapidly growing cornfields.

Strangers in a Strange Land
Title:  Strangers in a Strange Land
Description:  A pair of big NS units work a ballast train on the Cimarron Valley RY, a rather mundane assignment a long way from their home road. As Tim H points out in the comments, this is part of a state-funded effort to upgrade the CVO tracks in order to keep grain on the rails and off the roads. How two NS units ended up on this assignment beats me. NS 2593, an SD70M-2, trails.

Running through Hannibal
Title:  Running through Hannibal
Description:  Three NS units (9615, 9147, 5105) lead a westbound freight through Hannibal MO as the rails turn from along the river back towards the west. Not much remains from the city's railroad heyday. At the start of World War II the CB&Q, Wabash, St Louis & Hannibal and Hannibal Connecting (in nearby Ilasco) were all here, and the Burlington had a substantial divisional roundhouse and shop complex located just south of downtown. Now BNSF bairly slows down as it passes through while NS has a small, underused yard on the west side.

Trouble Brewing
Title:  Trouble Brewing
Description:  NS train 21T, a Harrisburg to Kansas City stack train, crosses Luetkenhaus Boulevard as it departs Wentzville MO after a meet with eastbound no111. About two hours later it would have a power failure near Benton City and tie up the entire railroad, requiring some fancy footwork by the dispatcher to rescue it. On top of that, and in spite of the clear blue skies here, was the forecast for up to a foot of snow on the way. It's just another day on the railroad.

112 Pulls Out of Wentzville
Title:  112 Pulls Out of Wentzville
Description:  NS train 112 pulls out of Wentzville MO on 4 January after tacking a bunch of autoracks from the GMC plant on its back end. It's behind train 21T and headed for Moberly. The dispatcher has given it clearance to Benton City, 57 miles away, where it's supposed to meet an eastbound. Unknown at this point is that the train ahead, 21T, will die along the way, making a hash of things for the operating force.

Climbing St. Charles Bridge
Title:  Climbing St. Charles Bridge
Description:  Eastbound NS train no.285 crosses Missouri Route 94 as it climbs the St.Charles Bridge over the Missouri River. While the power is largely unremarkable, the bridge was opened in 1936 and is rated at 7876 feet in length, with multiple deck girder approaches between an impressive canitlevered through-truss center section. Look closely at the mid span here and you might be able to faintly make out "WABA.." from its days with the Wabash RR.
